Fukuoka is ideal for water sports and is a good break from Japanese lessons in the classroom. With the clean sea air, the water, and the fun you have with new friends on the beach, you can recover from strenuous Japanese lessons. Asahi Nihongo is the only Japanese school in Japan, which offers various marine sports programs. Our German instructor Alex has more than 20 years experience in sailing and water sports and guarantees exciting marine sports activities and sailboat excursions to nearby islands (no sailing experience necessary). | 3. Beach Activities
3.1.? Bodyboarding ************************************************* Bodyboarding is a form of wave riding and very popular among women because it is not as physically strenuous as surfing or windsurfing. A normal bodyboarding board consists of a small, rectangular piece of foam. The board can have different shapes to adapt to the driving styles, and height of the surfer. The number of bodyboarders has grown rapidly in recent years and has become predominant at many of the beaches worldwide.

| 3.2. Surfing ************************************************* Surfing is very popular at Fukuma Beach. The surfers paddle from the beach on a small carbon fiber board to the area where the waves are breaking, using the strong currents flowing off the beach. When the surfer sees a proper wave, he tries to slide on the water through skillfull paddling to surf down the front wave. For most surfers, surfing is not just a sport, but a philosophy. A lot of new marine sports have developed from surfing, such as wakeboarding, skateboarding, and windsurfing.

| 3.3. Stand up paddle surfing (SUP) ************************************************* Paddle surfing comes from Hawaii and is called Hoe he'e nalu in the Hawaiian language. The sport is an ancient form of surfing and developed because it gave the surfing instructors the ability to handle a large group of beginners. When standing on the board, you have a better perspective on your surroundings ? for example, an incoming wave. Of course this is not quite as spectacular or exciting as surfing or windsurfing. |

| 3.4.1. About windsurfing ************************************************* In contrast to a yacht, where the mast is almost always inflexibly attached to the hull, the mast on a windsurfing board can be moved freely due to a special connection. Standing on the sailboard you gain speed and buoyancy due to strong winds, which lifts the main part of the board out of the water. Fixed to the mast and leach (the rear part of the sail) at arm’s height is the wishbone boom, which you hold onto. Using your own bodyweight and the wind direction, you can control the handling of the board perfectly. Currently, windsurfing is a very popular sport because you do not need expensive equipment like a yacht and is windsurfing is easier to learn than sailing. This is the reason why the number of people who partake in windsurfing is rapidly increasing. You can do windsurfing on the sea, a river or a lake; however, the best place to windsurf is in Fukuma, where you can find the nicest beach in Fukuoka.

| 3.4.2. Windsurfing equipment ************************************************* You can borrow boards from 101 litre up to 151 litre (Mistral, Starboard). The sails range from 4.6 sqm to 9.8 sqm (Gastar, Eezy, Naish, Naishsails) and are in a very good condition. 2010 Pantai Bagus is the Funsport-Testcenter for Exocet, Fanatic and Tushingham-Sails. |

| 3.5. Wakeboard ************************************************* Wakeboarding is the new, trendy marine sport and the “snowboarding of summer.” Skilled wakeboarders can do jumps up to ten metres, which is really quite spectacular to watch. At Fukuma Beach you can watch the best wakeboarders in Fukuoka.

| 3.6. Cruising ************************************************* From May to September you can join us on a trip with a sailboat, which has room for about 6-8 people. We bring you to a local, uninhabited island, or another port. While sailing, you can cool off with a dip in the sea and a have a drink, but do not forget your sunscreen!? | 6.3. Wind and waves ************************************************* When the wind blows from the west and north there are huge waves. In December it is really windy, when a windspeed of about 10 to 15 m/s (35km/h) is quite normal. A small board (115 Liter) with a 6.4 sqm sail is pefect for these conditions. When the wind blows from the east there are almost no waves like the inland sea. For this condition slalom sails are perfect. During spring and fall the average water temperature is about 15°C, and in summer about 25°C. The air temperature in summer is between 18°C and 30°C. For this reason you really only need a wetsuit in winter. With the right equipment, you can windsurf all year round.
Best wind direction:?? east, north, northwest, and west Wave mode: Few to moderate waves Risks: Swimmer, Surfer (From May 1st until September 1st there is a bathing zone, do not surf in this zone) Water quality:Good Best tide: Not affected by tides Bathing Season:? May-September Beach: Sandy beach with good access月
