Japanese Courses

What is the maximum period to study at Asahi? Students may stay for as long as they desire, however tourist visas usually only last 90 days. Our course system consists of five levels. For advanced students, starting at a higher level, their period of stay will usually be shorter, depending on their entry level. An option for students with higher Japanese language skills is to take private lessons with us.
Do you offer additional activities? Besides the courses we regularly offer activities such as?excursions and parties. For a small fee you can take part in our cultural activities and excursions (e.g. origami, traditional theatre, temple and shrine visits, calligraphy, tea ceremony, karaoke and many more). For the adventurous and those who enjoy the ocean the school also offers Marine sports activities.
During the course will I have learn enough to take part in language proficiency tests? At the end of your language course you will receive a certificate, which shows your participation. Every year in December you can take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) in your home country. Application period is between July and September. Also, you can take part in the J-Test every two months. (See: www.jtest.org).
How can I find my course level if I have already studied Japanese? For your self-evaluation you can find a level overview on our website. At the beginning of your course there will be an orientation with a level check to assure you receive the most suitable language education.
At what time do the courses take place? Monday to Friday Standard Course: 09:15 - 12:30 or 12:45 - 16:00 Intensive Course: 09:00? -12:15 and 13:00? 14:30 or 14:45 - 16:15 Private lessons: upon consultation

Accommodation

What types of accommodation do you offer? You can choose either host family (homestay) or flatshare accommodation. Please see our accommodation page for more information. Furthermore you can find booking services for accommodation, from cheap hostels up to luxury hotels on our link site.
Can I book accommodation longer than the language course? Usually the duration of the accommodation staying with a host family or room sharing should match with your course time. However, upon request your accommodation can be extended, either before or after your course. Maximum extension time is four weeks.
How can I get from my accommodation to the school? From our room share apartments the school is within walking distance. From our host families you can reach the school by public transport in 20-60minutes.

Do I need a visa? Citizens of the EU and many other countries do not need to apply for a visa if they stay less than three months in Japan. You will get a tourist visa when you arrive at the airport. Such a visa can be extended up to three months. (Current list). The current visa regulations and for periods longer than three months can be found here.
Are there courses recognized for German educational leave? Yes. There is a three-week intensive course (30 lessons per week), which is recognized for German educational leave by the German states of Hessen, Hamburg and Berlin.

How can I get to Fukuoka? Fukuoka has an international airport. The most common flight connections from Europe go to Tokyo, Osaka, Taipei, Hong Kong or Seoul, where you have to board a connecting flight to Fukuoka. Online booking services can be accessed via our link site. Alternatively consult your nearest travel agency.
Is Fukuoka expensive? Japan is generally considered to be an expensive country. However, Fukuoka compared with Tokyo is significantly cheaper. The cost of living in Fukuoka is comparable with those of most Western European countries. There is a great ? 100 shop in Fukuoka where you can buy notebooks, pens, fun Japanese presents, snacks and all sorts of goods!.
