Starting in July

July is an exciting month to be in Fukuoka, Japan. This is the time when everyone gathers to celebrate the “Yamakasa festival” from 1st to 15th in July, held in Hakata every year as a dedication to the Kushida shrine. The “Yamakasa” itself is a large ornate float, which is carried by many men around Hakata or Tenjin. It is a spectacular and powerful display of Japanese cultural tradition, making this a must-see event in Fukuoka.
