Interview with an Asahi Nihongo intern

We did an interview with one of our interns about life in Japan and her internship.
This is what she told us:

A: Hello Benyatip. Thank you for taking the time to do this interview with us.
B: You’re welcome. I’m happy to be here.
A: For a quick introduction, would you mind telling us how old you are, where you are from and what you are currently doing?
B: I’m a 24-year-old girl from Bangkok, Thailand, and I’m doing an internship at the Global Communication Center or “GloCoSen”.
A: Why have you come to Japan, and is there a reason why you have chosen Fukuoka in particular?
B: I’ve always been interested in Japan since I was young. I like Japanese culture, the cities and especially the food! I’ve been to Japan several times before but never to Fukuoka actually. For my university credits, I had to do an internship. As I’ve been studying Japanese since high school but stopped when entering university, I decided to come here to further improve my language skills, make Japanese friends and enjoy the Japanese cuisine. I chose Fukuoka because I’ve never been to the Kyushu area before. At first, I considered going to Tokyo as well, but after comparing the living costs, Fukuoka turned out to be cheaper. After all, improving your Japanese is also possible in other cities than Tokyo.
A: Glad you decided on coming to Fukuoka. Did you have any difficulties when you came here, for example, with Japanese life style.
B: No, not really. Since I had experienced Japan and Japanese customs before coming here, it wasn’t difficult to adapt myself.
A: You said that you really like Japanese culture and food. Would you consider staying in Fukuoka or Japan in general?
B: I really enjoy life in Japan but I’d like to see many other places as well, so I’m not inclined to live here forever.
A: What do you do in your free time, any recommendations?
B: I often skype with my family and friends back home. On weekends, I usually go out for dinner with my local friends and we do Nomihodai (All-you-can-drink) or Karaoke, or I just go shopping in the Tenjin or Hakata area.
A: You have already told us why you chose Japan. Why did you choose Asahi Nihongo in regards to your internship?
B: I found the school on the internet. It’s actually pretty hard to find an internship in Japan as a foreigner if your Japanese isn’t on a business language level. Asahi Nihongo helps everyone finding an internship, regardless of language levels.
A: How do you think about the future? What are your longterm goals regarding language skills?
B: At the moment, I have the JLPT Level N3 and I’d like to improve my skills up to the level that’s required to find work here in Japan.
A: What was the greatest difficulty you have faced during your stay so far?
B: Finding friends in Japan, because I didn’t do a language course at the school or studied at a university, which would have made it a lot easier for me to get in contact with other people.
A: Benyatip, thank you very much again for answering our questions.
B: Thank you.
