The Dontaku festival in Fukuoka is one of the oldest and biggest festivals in japan with over 2 million visitors every year and goes back at least 830 years. The name Dontaku is believed to stem from the Dutch word zondag (Sunday), which was taken to mean “holiday”.
On May 4th some of our students braced themselves for the busy streets and great weather (it was so hot!) and went to experience the most popular festival in Fukuoka. Dontaku actually lasts 3 days, but on wednesday the main highlight was the Disney Sea Parade and there was no way we were going to miss out on the famous mouse and duck!
Our reward for waiting for the amazing floats was great food and an even better atmosphere at Tenjin Central Park afterwards. All in all great day, be sure to join us next time!
