How to find a good job in Japan

We did an interview with one of our students who started his “Work and Travel” program at Asahi Nihongo. He has been living in Japan since September 2014 and has been working as an English teacher since then. At the moment, he works as a translator. This is his advice to those who would like to stay in Japan:

“The best way to find a good job in Japan is to go out and talk to people. Eventually, you will meet someone who might offer you a job. This, for example, is how I found my job. I was going out with my friend and talked to the people next to our table. One of them happened to be a business man from London and he introduced me to a Japanese guy who was working for a real estate company in Japan. Since this company had a lot of foreign customers, they needed someone to translate contracts and for showing around their customers when they come to Japan as well as introducing them to Japanese customs.

That is how I got my first job in Japan and because of this job, I found my next job as well. I worked at a Christmas market in Japan and talked to the manager. He told me they needed someone to buy things from Europe for the next year and if I wanted to give it a try I should go for it. It was a great opportunity. I traveled around the world buying goods from all over Europe and I even went to Tokyo and Osaka for free because everything was paid by the company. Of course, you must be lucky sometimes but my best advice is to always talk to people.”
