How to pray at a Shinto shrine

shrine
When you come to Asahi Nihongo, we usually take you on a city tour on your first day. During this tour, we visit a Shinto shrine located in the city center Tenjin. Today, I would like to teach you how to pray at a Shinto shrine, so that you are prepared for your city tour. (Shinto is the most important indigenous religion in Japan.)

  1. Put your monetary offering in the box. (There is no fixed amount, so you can decide by yourself how much to spend.)
  2. Ring the bell once.
  3. Bow twice.
  4. Clap twice while thinking about your wish.
  5. Bow once.

There you are. 🙂 I hope your wishes will come true!
