I traveled to Aomori alone in February. It was quite cold and snowy and I went to a tourist information center to inform myself which tourist attractions are around Aomori city. When I was using the internet and was sitting on a bank, an elderly woman started to talk to me all of the sudden.

She was born in Aomori and told me about the quite famous Aomori Nebuta Festival. She talked very excited about it, as it is every year big and exciting compared to other festivals in Japan. She was a very talk-active person and I was surprised that she wasn’t afraid to talk to a foreigner. I answered, that I really would like to see it too and that it is quite unfortunate I can not see it now in February. After a while she left me and went outside. Besides her, I meet quite a lot of people in Aomori who wanted to talk to me, as it seems like European foreigners like me are not often seen there.

This year’s Nebuta is over, but I might visit Aomori next year again to see it.
