Sushi

This post will be about the most famous Japanese dish of all, known and sold worldwide. Sushi (寿司) is made from vinegared small shaped rice bites which are topped with various marine products like fish and other seafood, often served together with seaweed. Even though the most common Sushi includes fish, there are numerous kinds of toppings, for example meat, vegetables and even tropical fruits Sushi.

Although commonly mistaken for sushi, Sashimi which is also a Japanese delicacy, consists of thinly sliced raw meat or fish and may or may not be served with rice.
Sushi can be prepared with either brown or white rice. It is often prepared with raw seafood, but some common varieties of sushi use cooked ingredients and many are vegetarian. Sushi is often served and eaten with wasabi, soy sauce and ginger to spice things up.

When thinking about Sushi, most people think of Maki sushi, which is the rolled and cut one. It’s the most common Sushi to be served overseas. There are hundreds of shapes and sizes in which Sushi comes in, so you should experience and try them for yourself. Smaller sushi is eaten with chopsticks but bigger sushi is meant to be eaten with bare hands as it’s too awkward to grab with chopsticks.

There are all kinds of sushi restaurants in Fukuoka, but if you want to try a lot of different sushi for relatively cheap, you should check out “Sushiro” (スシロー), it’s a so called Kaitensushi (回転寿司) restaurant, where the sushi is delivered by a conveyor belt and the overall price is calculated by the number of empty plates. Sushiro is located in Oyafuko-Dori (親不孝通り)
