Leon K.
Internship Program: Unpaid Internship
Company/Type: SUiTO Fukuoka
Nationality: German

It is time to introduce a new intern! Leon from Germany was eager to talk about his experiences during his internship at SUiTO Fukuoka.

Why did you choose Asahi Nihongo?
The organisation I went to Japan with is a partner of Asahi Nihongo.

Why did you pick this internship?
I wanted to do an internship at a company that specializes in tourism and marketing. Moreover, I wanted to gain more experience regarding Japanese working life and also acquire useful abilities for my future. That’s why I decided on SUiTO Fukuoka.

What were your tasks?
My first task was to collect customer evaluations, insert the data into an Excel table and turn it into a visual statistic afterwards. The results showed where we had to improve our services. I also had to write articles for our website. The latest article was about a private calligraphy course, where I also had the chance to join. Moreover, I often sat at the front desk to assist German customers coming to our place. I got a new schedule every day, so there were various tasks to be done.

Were there any (cultural) problems you had to overcome during your internship?
Thanks to my colleagues being very friendly, I could ask almost anything and have had no problems at all since the start of my internship.

What did you like the most about your internship?
I liked the calligraphy the most I guess. It was a new experience for me and the fact that I could not only watch but also participate in such a class is great!

And how do you like Fukuoka?
I like Fukuoka, especially the Daimyo Ward, because there are many places you can go to and a lot of delicious restaurants. Additionally, the central Ohori Park is the perfect place to relax.

Do you have any tips or recommendations for people who might want to do an internship?
It is important to be open-minded and spontaneous in regards to your work. Then you can enjoy your internship to the fullest.
