Today’s article will be rather informative than entertaining, we will inform you about the phone numbers and services you should use in case of an emergency. Japan is the safest country in the world but accidents and emergencies happen everywhere so it’s certainly better to know where to call if you happen to be involved in such an event. In Japan, an emergency phone call can be made free of charge from any phone including public pay phones.

110 police
Call 110 to report an accident or crime to the police call center. You should be able to tell them address or a landmark close to the location. If you speak English on the phone they will most likely bring someone along who speaks English.
118 coastguard
Call 118 to report an accident or crime at sea to the Japan Coast Guard. Fukuoka is a Harbour city with beach areas so we list this number as well so in case something happens to you on a beach stroll.
119 fire, ambulance, emergency, rescue
Call 119 to report a fire or to ask for an ambulance or rescue service or to contact an emergency call center (fire station). Same as for the police service, the emergency center will most likely let someone answer or come who is able to speak English so you can describe the situation or the accident properly.
Of course we hope that you’ll never have to use those phone numbers but in case of emergency it’s better to know where to call.
