The eye above Fukuoka

Nikken Sekkei had officially created a landmark when the construction of the Fukuoka Tower was finished in 1998. After 14 months and roughly $50 000 000 spent, Japan’s tallest seaside tower was completed. With a height of 234 meters and over 28 000 tons of pure mass, it is a monument of architecture watching over the Hakata Bay like a guarding shepherd. Often referred to as “Mirror Sail”, the 8 000 mirrors placed on the surface of the tower let their reflections dance across Momochi Beach and the incoming waves. With its three observation decks, the tower is an important destination for Fukuoka’s tourism and attracts thousands of visitors every year. The tower is designed to withstand magnitude 7 earthquakes and winds of a speed up to 65 m/s.

The only thing able to knock tower over was Godzilla, as seen in the 1994 movie “Godzilla vs Space Godzilla“. So if you do not find yourself in the rare occasion of Godzilla attacking Kyushu, the Fukuoka Tower, especially the view from the top, is definitely worth a visit.
